Fairview Hockey... back after nearly 20 years!

After a nearly 20 year hiatus, hockey is back at Fairview. The club began fielding freshman and varsity teams in 2004. The freshman club had great success finishing 3rd in the Northeast Ohio Hockey League. The varsity team, competing in the same league, finished near the bottom. Although competitive in many games, the young Tigers could not overcome their inexperience.

The Tigers built the program from those early freshman teams, and moved players up to JV and varsity as the years went by. Success did not come easy to the Tigers, and backed by veteran leadership and timely goal scoring the Tigers won their first championship in 2007-08. The Tigers remained competitive in 2008-09 after sending a few players to higher levels of hockey while overcoming injuries.

The philosophy of the club is to have fun. The club practices roughly 2.5 times week and will play most of their games on the weekends. Both the varsity and JV teams will play approximately 30 - 35 games. The introductory short season freshman club will play approximately 10 to 15 games. The club continues to provide a positive atmosphere to play in, and features the lowest fees in the area.

The Early Years
The Fairview program originated in 1975 and competed in the Lake Shore Hockey League along with McDowell, Strong Vincent, Tech Memorial, Cathedral Prep and others.

The early years were highlighted by a State Championship in the 1977. After preliminary rounds playing Penn Hills and North Catholic, Fairview defeated Moon in the semi-finals and faced Cathedral Prep in the finals. The team outlasted Prep to captured its first state title.

The following year Fairview successfully defended their title by defeating Abbington in a three game playoff hosted by Penn State in State College. The club would remain competitive through the 1985 season after which it was disbanded.
