South Park 3 - Fairview 6
After a scoreless first period with each team looking to figure the other out, Fairview's Pat Maloney struck first to open the scoring on a nifty pass from Anthony Cremonese. Zack Pfeffer returned to the goal column notching a goal off a rebound shot from Shawn McClay, then Maloney fired another home another off the crossbar to give the Tigers the lead heading into the third. South Park battled hard and put together a strong effort, but 3rd period goals by Leo McElhenny, Bob Sowieralski, and the hat trick goal from Pat Maloney pulled the Tigers head for the victory. Aaron Roos started the game and turned aside 18 of 21, with Tyler Sutula coming in to finish strong stopping all four shots he faced.
McKinley 6 - Fairview 4
In a rematch from last month's game, McKinley took the trip to Erie and took away a victory after a strong performance. The game was dominated by special teams, Fairview scored 3 power play goals to add to 1 shorthanded marker. On the other side, McKinley notched 2 power play goals, 1 shorthanded tally, and managed the victory through superior even strength play. Anthony Cremonese got the Tigers on the scoreboard early in the 2nd period after taking a drop pass off the rush from Zack Pfeffer. One motivated Fairview forward, Leo McElhenny, took the game under control by scoring the next two goals and assisted on another by 9th grader Greg Berdis, his first Varsity goal of his career. Overall, the Tigers could not control the defensive zone and turned the puck over in critical situations.
Fairview will look to improve their record in a few nights as they will take on the PIHL's McDowell Trojans. McDowell, led by former Fairview Tigers Nick Mankosa (G), Greg Harrington (D), Eric Butler (F), Alex Guerrero (F) and Jeff Clark (D), will look to continue their winning streak.
